Police to Outline Plans for July 4 Enforcement

Police have set a community meeting Thursday to outline the department’s enforcement plans for the city’s normally raucous Fourth of July celebration.
Lt. Jon Arnold will lead the third annual discussion, designed to let residents know what to expect during the holiday and to gather community input.
“Because it affects their day and affects their neighborhood,” Arnold said, “it’s a responsible thing to do, to let them know what we’re doing. We’re trying to be as neighborly as we can, and be aware of their concerns.”
Topics will include roadblocks that will bar traffic downtown and details of the city’s much-debated public-drinking ordinance.
In years past, the Independence Day celebration was marred by violence.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at City Council chambers, City Hall, 2000 Main St. Information: (714) 960-8811.
