Bill Medley Headlines Crash Victim Benefit

Singer Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers will give a concert July 10 to benefit a Newport Beach high school cheerleader who was critically injured in a May car crash, according to friends of the student.
Amanda Arthur, a junior at Newport Harbor High School, has been in a coma for more than four weeks at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana. Doctors say she sustained brain trauma in the May 23 accident, in which a Chevrolet Blazer loaded with 10 teenagers flipped over, killing one student and injuring several others.
Students and family friends have been raising money to help with hospital bills because Arthur’s family does not have medical insurance.
Fliers circulated by Newport Harbor cheerleaders and boosters say the concert, billed as “Medley for Mandi,” will start at 8 p.m. at the Newport Beach Country Club.
Medley, a baritone famed for the song “You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feelin’,” will be joined by television comedian Will Ferrell of “Saturday Night Live.”
Cheerleaders will be selling tickets from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays at the following Edwards Cinema locations: Big Newport, Triangle Square and Metro Pointe. Organizers are asking a minimum of $20 per person.
Contributions may also be sent to: Amanda Arthur Recovery Fund, P.O. Box 3192, Newport Beach, CA 92659.
