Man Sentenced to 20 Years in Fatal ’95 Freeway Crash

A Los Angeles man has been sentenced to 20 years to life in prison in connection with a 1995 freeway crash that claimed the lives of two people, a prosecutor said Wednesday.
Khachik Marjanian was found guilty in May of two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of 3-year-old Adelina Ochoa and Teresa Gutierrez as he drove while drunk on the Long Beach Freeway in the city of Commerce.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Wiatt’s sentence on Tuesday reflected Marjanian’s two prior convictions for drunk driving in 1990 and 1994, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Jonathan Rosen. The second conviction, Rosen said, means that Marjanian should not have been driving the van that caused the fatalities.
