Cypress Loses in Tournament Final

CYPRESS — Cypress, after trailing by as many as 18 in the second half, cut the lead to three before falling to American River, 61-57, Sunday in the final of the Cypress women’s basketball tournament.
American River led, 46-28, with 12 minutes 30 seconds left, but Cypress rallied. The Chargers’ Mary Perry made a three-pointer to cut the lead to 60-57 with eight seconds left.
Sharee Robinson of American River (4-3), however, made one of two free throws with four seconds left to clinch the victory.
American River’s Nickie Christensen had 12 points and was selected the tournament’s most valuable player.
Perry and Amber Farroux each had 12 points and Love had 11 for Cypress (5-3).
Long Beach beat Palomar, 70-65, in the third-place game and Rio Hondo beat Santa Monica, 68-60, in the consolation championship.
