Pepperdine’s promising start this season came to an abrupt end Saturday when Cal State Northridge went on a 23-2 run in the second half en route to an 81-66 victory. Northridge shredded the Waves’ interior defense, with 26 of its 33 baskets coming on layups, dunks or rebounds. Pepperdine has relied on the outside shooting of guards Gerald Brown, averaging 17.5 points, and Jelani Gardner, averaging 13.2, but post players omm’A Givens and Bryan Hill have been ineffective. Fullerton will be going for its fourth consecutive victory after sweeping a three-game homestand. The Titans had their best shooting performance of the season (50.8%) in Saturday’s 98-94 victory over Loyola Marymount. Guards Chris Dade and Chris St. Clair lead the Titans. Dade is averaging 21.8 points and shooting 53.6%. St. Clair, averaging 14.8 points, is shooting 45.2% from three-point range.
