Child Killed

It would be hard not to be moved by the front-page picture on Dec. 16 of the little 10-month-old who lost his brother, Evan Foster, to gang gunfire.
While the people who obey the law view this as a tragedy of monumental proportions, perhaps the alleged gang members see this as a casualty of war.
Unfortunately, that perspective dooms us to the inevitable--that this tragedy will be repeated.

In “3 Held in Gang Retaliation That Killed Boy, 7” (Dec. 16) the following words appear: “Police . . . recovered that weapon, a MAC-90 . . . a semiautomatic . . . look-alike of the AK-47. It is legal in California.”
Legal in California!
What kind of lawmakers do we have in our government, either state or federal, who allow this idiocy to exist in the name of constitutional freedom? When will the voting public kick these bought-and-paid-for political hacks out of office and return them to their righteous NRA strongholds?
Legal assault weapons. What is the matter with us?
