Easier-on-the-Eye TV

TIMES STAFF WRITER

Over the next four days, thousands of Southern California football fans will get ready to spend some quality time on the couch. There are snacks to buy, drinks to chill and cable bills to pay.

For the hard-core channel surfer, whose worst physical injury on New Year’s Day will be eyestrain, there is the ClearView TV Softlens. Made by Ergotech International Inc. of Irvine, this thin PVC filter sticks to the television screen, and cuts down on glare and reflection.

“It’s like a contact lens for your TV,” said Ray Nelson, vice president of the small Irvine company. “It cuts down on outside reflections as much as 70%, and makes it easier for your eyes to stare at the screen for long periods of time.”

The company, which specialized in ergonomic products for computers, sells similar filters for PC monitors to several insurance companies and aerospace manufacturers. The filters are sold through Ergotech’s Irvine offices.
