American Families

C. Ray Drew (letter, Dec. 24) states that defining a family as “a husband and a wife” actually “excludes the majority of families in this country.” According to the Census Bureau, about 77% of all family households in the U.S. are headed by married couples. About 70% of all children under age 18 live with two married parents. I agree with Drew that nontraditional families are still families, but his cause is not served by exaggeration.
