An Archaeological Institute of America symposium Jan. 10 at UC Irvine will open and close with ritualistic blessings by a Mayan shaman.
Experts from UCLA, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara and the University of Colorado will discuss recent and older findings in Mayan culture and history. The emphasis is on agriculture, resource managements, and recent findings in Belize, Colombia and San Salvador.
The institute’s Orange County Society holds regular meetings for the public, typically at Southern California College in Costa Mesa.
Admission is $10 for society members and $15 for nonmembers. Students with identification get in for $5.
Registration starts at 9 a.m. with speeches beginning at 10 a.m. in UCI’s Crystal Cove auditorium on the second floor of the Student Center. Information: (714) 725-0267.
