Racing Clock for Road Improvement Grant

Looking to beat a Dec. 31 deadline for a $75,000 highway grant, the City Council will hold a special meeting tonight.
The grant would defray the cost of lengthening the southbound left-turn lane along Pacific Coast Highway at Crown Valley Parkway and improving drainage at the intersection.
Caltrans recently made additional funds available to cities preparing for El Nino rains but required that a contract for construction be awarded by Dec. 31.
The council will vote on a $227,153 contract for the heavily traveled intersection.
“PCH has an enormous amount of traffic,” City Manager John B. Bahorski said. Because cars waiting to turn left onto Crown Valley Parkway often back up onto PCH, the intersection “is a source of problems,” he said.
The 5 p.m. meeting will be at City Hall, 33282 Golden Lantern, Suite 210. Information: (714) 248-9890.
