Needle Disposal Program in Place

The Costa Mesa Sanitary District now offers a program that allows diabetics and others who use syringes to safely and cleanly dispose of them.
Two local pharmacies, North Drugs and Steven’s, are participating in the program, the first of its kind in Orange County, according to the district.
Residents served by the district in Costa Mesa and Santa Ana Heights can pick up a free quart-size container capable of holding 100 needles. Residents may return filled containers to the pharmacies for collection and will receive an empty one in exchange.
Containers are picked up by the district and processed into reusable material.
The private-public partnership was launched to protect those who come in contact with trash and to provide a safe alternative for needle disposal.
North Drugs is at 1170 Baker St. Steven’s Pharmacy is at 1525 Mesa Verde Drive E.
