LATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: As an alternative candidate on the Thousand Oaks recall ballot, Gillette garnered more votes than any replacement candidate. At Cal Lutheran, Gillette recently finished planning and development work on a $4.1-million humanities center. As a park commissioner, he has proposed an endowment to improve 14 undeveloped sites in Thousand Oaks.

GOALS FOR 1998: Gillette plans to run for Thousand Oaks City Council next November. With his background as a former assistant sheriff in the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, as well as his role with the park district and CLU, Gillette believes he has a good understanding of issues residents care about most: public safety, open space and ensuring the city is a good place to raise children. For Cal Lutheran, Gillette plans to continue working on an athletic complex for the north part of campus.
