Coroner Investigates Death of Inmate Found Hanging in Cell

Los Angeles County coroner’s investigators are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the death of a 42-year-old man who apparently hanged himself in an Arcadia city jail cell with bed sheets.
David Edward Foley of Duarte was discovered hanging in his cell shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday by an Arcadia police officer, Police Capt. David Hinig said. The officer cut Foley down and tried to revive him with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Foley had been held on charges of burglary and receiving stolen property. A conviction would have been a third strike for Foley, resulting in a lengthy imprisonment, Hinig said. Foley was pronounced dead in the cell after paramedics attempted to revive him.
“Having some one died in our custody is not something we are very comfortable with,” Hinig said.
