Refrigerator Magnets List Wrong Number for Hotline

As part of an effort to bring Nordstrom-style service to Pasadena City Hall, the city manager installed a customer service hotline and distributed its telephone number on thousands of refrigerator magnets to residents.

But anyone dialing the number that appears on the magnet Monday got a message that it was disconnected. Since the magnets were issued, the city changed its prefixes. So the hotline number 683-6925 is now 744-6925, city officials said.

Ann Erdman, city spokeswoman, said residents dialing the number on the magnets should have gotten a message providing the new number. “It will be fixed immediately,” she said.

She said the city has publicized the change of prefixes for City Hall from 683 and 405 to 744 in the city newsletter to residents and news media.

People who dial other 683 prefix numbers listed for city offices in the current local white pages also get messages that the numbers have been disconnected.
