Northridge Welcomes Newcomers
An open tryout held by the Cal State Northridge baseball team Saturday yielded no budding All-Americans or even anyone Coach Mike Batesole was interested in inviting to the first official practice Monday.
However, five new players were at practice, including left-handed pitcher Carey Novits, who pitched for Northridge last season and returned after an unsuccessful tryout at Cal State Fullerton.
Two additions are Northridge football players. Outfielder Brian Walker, the football team’s punter, is a junior who played baseball at Cal State Bakersfield. Freshman Marcus Brady, a backup quarterback, is fast and might make the baseball team as a pinch-runner.
Other newcomers are shortstop Marco Estrada, a junior from El Camino College who was cut from Cal State Fullerton, and right-handed pitcher Brad Foss, a junior from East L.A. College who recently completed his academic requirements to transfer to Northridge.
