Selanne to Start for World All-Stars

Right wing Teemu Selanne, who has a league-leading 31 goals, was selected Monday to start for the World team in the NHL All-Star game Jan. 18 at Vancouver.
Selanne joins forwards Peter Forsberg of the Colorado Avalanche and Jaromir Jagr of the Pittsburgh Penguins on the World team, which plays a team of all-stars from North America in a departure from the traditional format.
Sandis Ozolinsh of the Avalanche and Slava Fetisov of the Detroit Red Wings will be the starting defensemen with Buffalo’s Dominik Hasek in goal.
“That sounds pretty good to me,” Selanne said upon hearing the news. “It’s always nice to be a part of that happening at the All-Star game.”

Duck Coach Pierre Page said Tomas Sandstrom should not be suspended for breaking the left hand of St. Louis winger Brett Hull near the end of the first period of Saturday’s 5-5 tie.
“If you suspend him you’d have to suspend half the players in every game,” Page said. “If they had suspended him it would have just been because it was Brett Hull. Jeez, [Chicago’s Chris] Chelios slashed [Paul Kariya] all night [Sunday].”
