Karen Caires, who left Kennedy High School after the 1993-94 season to assist the program at Vermont, has been named assistant women’s basketball coach at Oregon State.
Caires accepted the position Friday. She coached the last three seasons at Vermont, which improved from 11-16 in the 1994-95 season to 21-8 and second place in the American East Conference in 1996-97.
Caires was head coach at Kennedy for two seasons. Before that, she was an assistant coach at Cypress College for three seasons.
“I am very excited and looking forward to recruiting the elite athletes and being back on the West Coast,” Caires said. “There is not even one drawback to this move--except the rain.”
