The “Un-Cola”: Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Sherman Oaks) is proposing legislation he jokingly calls the “un-COLA bill.” Sherman was one of several members of Congress who voted against a cost-of-living adjustment, or COLA. It passed anyway, giving lawmakers a $3,000 raise. Sherman’s bill would let representatives decline the raise. Otherwise, pay-raise opponents must write a check each month to reimburse the Treasury.
