Adult Literacy

Thank you for raising awareness of adult literacy with “Literacy Program’s Tutors Help Open Doors to a New World” (Nov. 2).
Literacy today means so much more than just reading and writing. It involves a whole range of life skills that help to increase job skills, problem-solving abilities, computer literacy skills, and can have a direct impact on families, communities and the workplace.
In Los Angeles County, volunteers and adults seeking literacy programs can call the Southern California Literacy Referral Line, (800) 707-7323, for referrals to library literacy programs, adult schools and community-based literacy programs.
