City Councilman Ken Maddox announced his candidacy for the state Assembly on Wednesday, making him the second Garden Grove council member seeking the Republican nomination for the seat.
Maddox, 33, who describes himself as a “traditional conservative Republican,” was elected to the City Council last year. He is a DARE officer with the Tustin Police Department.
“I was content with my current role as a council member and in my position as a DARE officer,” Maddox said. “But upon reflection and examining the interests of the constituents, I decided it was best to go ahead and announce my candidacy.”
The 68th District Assembly seat, being vacated by Curt Pringle (R-Garden Grove), has been a political tempest, with four of the five Garden Grove council members at one time considering running for the post.
City Councilman Ho Chung already announced his candidacy, along with attorney John Kellogg. The primary election is June 2, 1998.
