Ojai Pedestrian Killed on Highway 33

OJAI — A man died after he was struck by a car as he crossed California 33 near Loma Drive on Monday night, California Highway Patrol officials said.
The Ojai resident, identified as Johannes Wildenhain, 93, was crossing the road in a crosswalk about 5:50 p.m. He was thrown about 100 feet by the impact and died almost instantly, according to paramedics at the scene. Wildenhain’s wife, who was not identified, also was in the crosswalk but was not injured.
The couple live several blocks away.
The motorist who struck Wildenhain, who was not identified, said she did not see the couple in the crosswalk, witnesses said.
CHP officers closed the northbound side of California 33 at Tico Road. Traffic was diverted to surface streets, then back to the highway north of the accident, CHP officials said.
