La Habra 12, Cerritos Valley Christian 0--Robert Morales threw for one touchdown and ran for another to lead La Habra in a nonleague game at La Habra.

Morales, who completed 10 of 29 passes for 273 yards, put the Highlanders on the board with a one-yard run at the end of the first half to cap a three-play, 25-second drive that covered 79 yards.

With six minutes remaining in the game, La Habra defensive back Dale Sutton intercepted a pass by Valley Christian quarterback Tim Vander Hook.

Sutton then helped the Highlanders put the game away by catching a 31-yard touchdown pass from Morales on the next play.

“[Morales] hit me when we really needed it, and the linemen did a great job of blocking,” said Sutton, who caught five passes for 162 yards.

Josh Herrera led the Highlanders’ rushing attack, gaining 111 yards in 14 carries.

Valley Christian’s Mark Garciano rushed for 113 yards in 19 carries.

Both teams struggled in the first half as Valley Christian turned the ball over four times, and La Habra gave the ball away twice and missed a 27-yard field goal.

“It was a typical first game,” La Habra Coach Rick Milhizer said.
