Scorn and High Praise for Zeanah

As a registered voter of Thousand Oaks, I would like to take issue with the Sept. 17 article by Times staff writer Miguel Bustillo.
He starts out saying it took THEM (meaning the City Council of Thousand Oaks) more than two years and $1 million in expert opinions to settle the issue of the Hill Canyon Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrade.
Mr. Bustillo, it is not THEM. It is one council member, Elois Zeanah. She has been opposed to the plan from the beginning and has cost the taxpayers of Thousand Oaks over $11 million. The majority of the City Council always supported the original plan, however it took a four-fifths vote for a approval.
Zeanah has been the one calling for more costly studies and delays. What is so intolerable is she ended up voting with the majority of the City Council and approving the original proposal. But, only after she realized how infuriated the citizens of this community are toward her. All the money and time spent were a total waste.
This is one of many reasons she is up for recall on the November ballot. Zeanah has been one of the most divisive elements to ever happen upon this community. Her behavior and conduct as a supposedly responsible member of the City Council are appalling.
My hope now is the citizens of Thousand Oaks will try to correct a major flaw in our city government and rid ourselves of this council member on Election Day.

Throughout history, when someone asks questions of the powerful, questions that make it difficult to deceive the public, that person has been denounced as an enemy. Socrates, who owned nothing, asked questions and was told he was teaching blasphemy and treason. The powerful hate the gadfly. He was executed for asking for the truth.
Are we living in some Third World dictatorship or oligarchy where the radio blares propaganda of the state and the newspapers are the lackeys of the powerful? Why must opposition be silenced? Why is Elois Zeanah so dangerous that one Moorpark woman in her campaign of vendetta contributes $145,000 to remove a two-time elected leader?
When we whine about how corrupt politics is, how can we sit idly by when the real thing, the honest people’s representative, is subjected to blatant character assignation?
We know Zeanah is on the right side of the issues. She gains nothing from taking on the powerful development interests. She has been subjected to abuse for years because she has asked the questions you and I want asked. I hope you will join me on Nov. 4 and be there for Zeanah as she has been there for us. Vote NO RECALL.
