Clinton Plans Hate Crimes Conference

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Urging Americans to fight bigotry, President Clinton announced he will convene the first White House Conference on Hate Crimes on Nov. 10. Clinton announced his plans in a videotaped message for the annual meeting in Colorado Springs of the Northwest Coalition Against Malicious Harassment, a Seattle-based organization. The White House Conference on Hate Crimes will provide a forum for numerous viewpoints, bringing together the victims of hate crimes, law enforcement officials, educators and community and religious leaders, Clinton said. “More than ever, we know we’ll be strengthened when we honor the dignity and use the talents of all our people, regardless of race, or religious faith, national origin or sexual orientation, gender or disability,” Clinton told the coalition.
