Gonzalez Leads Century Past Ocean View

Junior Gustavo Gonzalez scored two touchdowns to lead Century to a 21-14 nonleague victory over Ocean View on Saturday night at Santa Ana Stadium.

Gonzalez rushed for 54 yards in 11 carries and Rimiro Carasa rushed for 79 yards in 13 carries for Century (2-1).

Junior Matt Trice rushed for 96 yards in seven carries, including a 69-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, to lead Ocean View (0-3).

Gonzalez helped Century take a 21-14 lead on a 28-yard touchdown run with 4:32 left in the third quarter. Quarterback Joel Valdez rushed for the two-point conversion.

Century got as close as 14-13 on Gonzalez’s two-yard touchdown run with 56 seconds left in the first half.

Ocean View had two chances to tie the score in the fourth quarter.

The Seahawks reached the Century 15, but Century’s Rafael Ramos intercepted a second-down pass by quarterback Scott McMahan in the end zone to kill the drive with 9:29 remaining in the game.

Later in the quarter, the Seahawks moved the ball from their 39-yard line to the Century 35.

The drive eventually stalled at the Century 22 as the Centurions took over with 2:00 remaining.
