Police are seeking an Oxnard resident on suspicion of a hit-and-run and failing to render aid in connection with an accident last month.
Daniel Romero Mendoza is being sought after a March 11 incident in which 87-year-old Estevan Lopez was hit as he was walking at the intersection of Surfside Drive and Hueneme Road, said Det. Christine Alvarez of the Port Hueneme Police Department.
Lopez of Port Hueneme remained hospitalized Friday night in stable condition at St. Johns Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, said a nursing supervisor.
Mendoza, 22, allegedly drove through a red light as he was traveling east on Hueneme Road with three other men in a gray 1985 Ford Mustang, Alvarez said. The car then was abandoned at the intersection of Casper and Hueneme roads, Alvarez said.
Alvarez said police also want to talk to a pedestrian who was reported walking south on Surfside Drive at the time of the crash.
