SMALL FACES: Among songs coming in for the soundtrack to “The X-Files” movie, which is being supervised by Don Was’ former musical partner David Was, are a remake of the Police’s “Invisible Sun” by Sting with the reggae band Aswad, Filter’s version of the old Harry Nilsson/Three Dog Night hit “One” and the Dust Brothers’ take on “The X-Files” theme. Others contributing new or unreleased tracks include Bjork, the Cranberries, Foo Fighters, the Cure, Ween, Sarah McLachlan, the Cardigans, Tonic and Better Than Ezra. . . .
Polly Jean Harvey is working in England on a new album, scheduled for September release. She also is featured on Tricky’s upcoming album, dueting on the song “Broken Homes,” due May 11 as a radio single. . . .
One of two new B-52’s songs recorded for an upcoming singles compilation is “Debbie,” a homage to their friend and early booster Deborah Harry of Blondie. The album, “Time Capsule: Songs for a Future Generation,” is due May 26. The band’s tour with the Pretenders will have an Aug. 2 Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre date in addition to Aug. 4 and 5 shows at the Universal Amphitheatre. . . .
Neil Young is reportedly recording in San Francisco on a project that apparently does not feature his frequent backing band Crazy Horse. Plans are being made for a tour of mid-size concert facilities in the fall.
