Two Maryland college students on spring break were beaten and stabbed to death, police said. A witness described the incident as racially motivated. A third student was listed in critical condition at a hospital in Daytona Beach. Police Lt. Wade Kirby of New Smyrna Beach said four suspects were in custody. A student said the violence began when a local white man used a racial epithet against one of the victims, who were black. The dead men, identified as Cavens Hall, 23, and Matthew Witchita, 20, were students at Howard Community College in Columbia, Md.
