Woman, Daughter Are OK After 10 Hours in the Forest

A woman and her 7-year-old daughter, who were lost for 10 hours in the rugged mountain terrain of Cleveland National Forest, were found by bloodhounds about an hour before dawn Sunday, authorities said.
Search teams found 23-year-old Tracey Lamb and her child, Kaylie Stanbery, at 4:25 a.m. about three miles from Upper San Juan picnic area, according to Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Richard Paddock. The two were cold but uninjured, Paddock said.
The pair were reported missing by a male companion at 9 p.m. Saturday, three hours after they failed to meet him as scheduled at a ranger’s station, Paddock said. Search teams and a helicopter fanned out west of California Wildland Firefighters Memorial Highway, Paddock said.
Hikers in eastern Orange County should beware of fast-falling night temperatures and come equipped with a map, adequate clothing, food, water and, if possible, a cellular phone for emergencies, Paddock said.
