Police Begin Crackdown on Child Seat Violators
- Share via
The Police Department will conduct a crackdown on child car seat violations today and begin a car seat giveaway, officials said.
Under state law, all passengers under the age of 4 or who weigh less than 40 pounds must be restrained in a child car seat.
In El Monte, Police Sgt. Ken Alva said three out of four vehicles are in compliance, but his department wants to bring that rate to 100%. To reach that goal, the department’s seven motor officers will check cars for proper child restraints, he said.
The weeklong special enforcement will coincide with free classes on child safety seats and a giveaway program for El Monte families who cannot afford the seats.
Classes on the use of child safety seats will be held the first Wednesday of each month at 5 p.m. at the Police Department, 11333 Valley Blvd.
