Pacoima produced three of the four winners at the fifth annual Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles Spelling Bee on Saturday.
The winners will get a free trip to Washington, D.C., where Rep. Howard Berman (D-Mission Hills) will take them on a tour.
Karina Bedolla, 9, of Pacoima Elementary School; Emilio Fuentes, 13, of Maclay Middle School in Pacoima; and Vanda Ayrapetian, 12, of Guardian Angel Catholic School are the Valley winners headed to the nation’s capital April 30.
Yosef Kidane, 7, of Mar Vista Elementary School, also won.
The bee was organized by HACLA’s Community Service Center, which put on preliminary competitions that involved more than 1,200 students from 20 area public housing developments.
Saturday’s event at Panorama Mall drew a crowd of 300 people.
