Lights Considered for School Ball Fields

City officials are hoping to avoid another round of controversy when the City Council tonight considers installing lights at an elementary school.
Council members will decide whether to let officials begin an environmental review of a proposal to install lights on two ball fields at Crown Valley Elementary School.
Last year, a similar project at Niguel Hills Middle School drew angry opposition from neighbors concerned about glare, parking and traffic. Despite their concerns, the lights were installed.
City Manager Tim Casey said about 15 to 20 homes are adjacent to the Crown Valley Elementary School fields. There are 25 next to Niguel Hills Middle School.
Casey said the environmental review is needed to get an overview of the project.
“We do need to proceed with a conceptual design of the project before we can have a productive dialogue with the neighborhood,” Casey said.
The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 27841 La Paz Road. Information: (714) 362-4300.
