* United Airlines announced a sale in seven major domestic markets to and from Los Angeles for travel this spring. The new fares are as low as $297 round-trip between L.A. and Newark, N.J., and $250 between Los Angeles and Honolulu.

* Pasadena-based Avery Dennison Corp. said its board elected Philip M. Neal, currently president and chief operating officer, president and chief executive, succeeding longtime CEO Charles D. Miller, who will remain as chairman.

* Sunnyvale-based Infoseek Corp. said its first-quarter loss narrowed, beating expectations, as the Internet directory firm’s revenue more than doubled. The company’s loss was $1.52 million, or 5 cents a share, compared with a loss of $4.11 million, or 16 cents, a year ago. Revenue more than doubled, to $14.3 million from $6.15 million. Analysts expected a loss of 11 cents.

* Milpitas-based LSI Logic Corp. said first-quarter profit fell 21%, hurt by lower prices for semiconductors that go into video games, mobile phones, computers and other devices. The chip maker said net income fell to $30.4 million, or 22 cents a diluted share, from $38.4 million, or 28 cents, a year ago.

* San Francisco-based Charles Schwab Corp. said it plans to raise the fee it charges companies that sell their mutual funds through the discount broker’s OneSource service. Schwab will increase the fee to $3.50 from as low as $2.50 for each $1,000 invested in funds through OneSource. The fee is charged to thefund companies, not investors.
