2 Men Charged With Trying to Sell Cannons

Two men arrested in a sting operation while allegedly trying to sell military cannons capable of firing 1,200 rounds a minute were indicted Tuesday by a Los Angeles federal grand jury. Steven Picatti, 53, of Boise, Idaho, and Kasi Gabitta, 54, of Hacienda Heights, were each charged with conspiracy to possess destructive devices. Picatti was also accused of possessing, transferring and transporting cannons. The pair intended to sell six cannons for $12,000 each to a prospective buyer who turned out to be an undercover agent with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, according to prosecutors. The arrests grew out of an undercover investigation by the ATF and the U.S. Customs Service.
