Ex-Coach Admits He Had Sex With Minor

A former assistant track coach at Simi Valley High School has pleaded guilty to having sex with a minor.
Robert America, 23, will be sentenced on July 10 for having sex with a then-16-year-old student who was a member of the track team. America entered his guilty plea during a brief hearing on Tuesday.
Police said America’s relationship with the girl, which started in 1995, was consensual, and lasted about a year.
America was originally charged with 10 counts for his crime, but that number was reduced to five as part of his plea agreement.
America was not a teacher at the school, but a paid assistant for both the girls’ and boys’ track teams until he was fired in the spring of 1996.
Simi Valley police arrested America in April of last year on suspicion of statutory rape after the girl told authorities about their relationship.
