Mitnick Hacker Trial Postponed Again

The trial of accused computer hacker Kevin Mitnick, previously scheduled to begin Jan. 19, was postponed until April 20 by a federal judge in Los Angeles after the defendant’s lawyer argued that he needed more time to prepare his case. The continuance marked at least the third such delay of the trial, which centers on a 25-count indictment that accuses Mitnick of “stealing, copying, and misappropriating proprietary computer software” from a number of large cellular phone and computer companies. Mitnick, a native of the San Fernando Valley and one of the world’s most infamous hackers, has been in jail in Los Angeles awaiting trial since February 1995, when he was captured in North Carolina following a two-year run from authorities.
