SHERMAN OAKS — A total of 626 city Department of Water and Power customers were without electricity for three hours early Wednesday when power lines went down at the intersection of Magnolia and Sepulveda boulevards, said Walter Zeisl, a department spokesman.
A short time later, a second set of power lines failed near the Sepulveda Dam just west of the San Diego Freeway, Zeisl said.
The California Highway Patrol closed all lanes of the San Diego freeway in both directions between Burbank Boulevard and the transition to the eastbound Ventura Freeway at 12:44 p.m. The CHP reopened the freeway 20 minutes later.
“Why lines failed in two places in the same circuit, I don’t know,” Zeisl said. “The cause is being investigated.”
The outage affected the area bounded by Weddington Street to the north, Noble Avenue to the east, Hartsook Street to the south and the San Diego Freeway, he said.
Power was restored to nearly all customers by 11:30 a.m., he said.
