Spotlight: Netscape CEO May Resign From @Home Board

Netscape Communications Chief Executive Jim Barksdale is considering stepping down from @Home’s board because of the conflict of interest posed by America Online’s purchase of Netscape, a spokeswoman said. AOL hopes to gain access to cable TV networks such as the one @Home uses to provide high-speed Internet access. AOL has agreed to acquire Mountain View-based Netscape for $4.2 billion, and Barksdale agreed to join AOL’s board. Redwood City-based @Home declined to comment.
