Westchester Tumbles to Charging Narbonne

The Narbonne High girls’ basketball team had its record tarnished earlier this week when the City Section ruled the Gauchos had to forfeit three games because it used an ineligible player.
Narbonne was allowed to continue competing in the City Section 4-A playoffs, and the top-seeded Gauchos continued their run toward a championship with a 99-53 semifinal victory over Westchester Friday night at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Narbonne (24-4) will play Palisades, a 73-50 winner over North Hollywood, in the championship game on Friday at the Sports Arena.
Narbonne’s victory over Westchester (15-11) was never in doubt as the Gauchos’ full-court, pressure defense and marksmanship from the perimeter enabled it to take a 23-8 first-quarter lead that swelled to 51-14 by halftime.
Amber White scored 24 points for Narbonne, which lost to Crenshaw in last year’s 4-A final. Jessica Cheeks added 21 points for the Gauchos.
Tenicha McCain scored 18 points for Westchester. Tiffany Williams added 17.
