Corporate Settlements Raise Some Questions

“30 Brokerages Agree to Pay $1 Billion to Settle Class-Action Suit” [Dec. 25] says that the firms allegedly colluded to fix prices on the Nasdaq Stock Market.
Needless to say, they all denied any wrongdoing.
This is an almost daily pattern--one reads constantly of “settlements” by major companies.
One comes away after a while asking, “Is anyone honest?”
