Former Los Angeles King Frederic Chabot stopped 30 shots and all four skaters in a shootout as the Houston Aeros defeated the Long Beach Ice Dogs, 2-1, in an International Hockey League game Saturday in front of an announced 3,407 at the Long Beach Arena.
Chabot returned to Houston on Dec. 16 after a stint with the Kings. He was the IHL’s most valuable player last season and is 6-1-0 this season.
Long Beach, 24-13-6 and second in the Southwest Division, outshot Houston 30-19, by holding the division-leading Aeros (26-10-4) to only two shots in the second period.
The Aeros scored 54 seconds into the game after Ice Dogs goalie Kay Whitmore made a point-blank save on David Oliver’s shot that rebounded to Cam Stewart, who converted on a 40-foot slap shot.
Rob Kenny scored the Ice Dog’s goal in the second period.
