Bottom Line: ‘Amy’
Times staff writer Robin Rauzi proclaims “Eve’s Bayou” to be, “financially speaking, the most successful American independent movie of 1997” (“Life Looks Sunny on the ‘Bayou,’ ” Dec. 29).
I was wondering just how financial success is measured. As stated in the article, “Eve’s Bayou” cost $4 million to make and has grossed more than $13.2 million. Not bad, but not the most financially successful. That title would have to go to “Chasing Amy.” Although its overall gross of slightly more than $12 million is less than “Bayou’s,” it cost only $250,000 to produce. Please give credit where it is due.
