POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — Although Casey Martin was back in his cart, his golf game went for a bumpy ride Thursday in the Nike South Florida Classic.
Martin, waging a court battle with the PGA Tour to be allowed to use a cart, shot a six-over-par 76 that left him 12 strokes behind leader Scott Dunlap after the opening round.
It was a far cry from last week, when Martin, 25, won the Nike Lakeland Classic, collecting $40,500 and bringing worldwide attention to Klippel Trenaunay Weber Syndrome, the disability that often makes it too painful for him to walk the course.
