Hospital to Hold Reunion of Quake Relief Volunteers

A hospital that was severely damaged by the Northridge earthquake will hold a commemoration of the heroes of the disaster today.
About 250 people are expected to attend St. John’s Health Center’s “Celebration of Heroes Earthquake Reunion,” including hospital staff, city officials, former patients and several 4-year-olds who were infants at the hospital when the quake hit four years ago today, said Lindi Funston, a hospital spokeswoman.
Funston said the hospital wanted to thank the hundreds of people who helped evacuate and care for 300 St. John’s patients in the aftermath of the quake.
The hospital sustained $105 million in damage, closed its inpatient services for nine months after the quake, and was forced to demolish its irreparable north wing.
The public is also invited to the ceremony, which begins at 11:30 a.m.
Art Linkletter will host the event, which will be held in the hospital auditorium, 1328 22nd Street, Santa Monica.
