McCoy’s Status a Question--Again
Coach Steve Lavin declined to comment Monday on the status of junior center Jelani McCoy.
McCoy, suspended for the first nine games of the season for what UCLA described as a violation of athletic department rules and team policy, practiced Monday.
But McCoy, asked twice last weekend about speculation that he was about to be suspended again, did not specifically rule out the possibility, saying Saturday, “I’m on the team--what does that tell you?”
Lavin also was cryptic when asked Saturday about McCoy’s status: “No, no, Jelani’s on our team. Everything is status quo. For right now, he is on our team.”
The school, citing privacy concerns, has neither confirmed nor denied a report that McCoy and Kris Johnson, who was suspended for the first four games, had tested positive for marijuana use multiple times.
