National Anthem

Tom Lasorda’s impassioned plea to pass a constitutional amendment making it a crime to desecrate the American flag may be commendable to those who believe in censorship, but I think he is overlooking a far greater crime.
I haven’t heard him complain about the endless parade of no-talent singers who continue to dismantle and destroy our national anthem at sporting events.
The remedy is simple. Let’s make it a crime to sing the national anthem badly. And let’s punish those who forget the words, or sing out of tune, or alter the rhythm, or jazz it up, or rap it, or make it into a country-western love song.
I think that millions of sports fans would sleep better if they knew that Lasorda was watching over our “Star Spangled Banner.”
