Council to Consider Growth Measure
The City Council is set to vote tonight on whether to add a measure to the November ballot designed to restrict growth outside its borders.
If the so-called Camarillo Urban Restriction Boundary makes it to the ballot and is approved, it would give voters the power to determine whether farmland or open space could be annexed to the city.
Drafted by organizers of the Save Open Space and Agricultural Resources initiative, the CURB measure would protect 300 acres outside Camarillo’s “sphere of influence.”
The city councils in Oxnard, Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley and Santa Paula have agreed to place SOAR measures on their ballot this fall.
And Moorpark agreed to accept petitions seeking to place SOAR on its ballot, but a Superior Court judge last week ruled the signatures were invalid because of a technicality on the documents.
