Highway 118 Is No Freeway

Re “Train Slams Into Big Rig, Killing Driver,” July 12.
I will admit that it has been several days since I drove that particular stretch of California 118 between Somis and Moorpark, so it is remotely possible that Caltrans has indeed made it a freeway, as your story calls it. However, having had considerable contact with Caltrans, I find it extremely unlikely that the road has suddenly been rebuilt and is more than a two lane road.
As to Moorpark City Councilman John Wozniak’s comment criticizing unprotected crossings: He is a staunch supporter of the rural lifestyle and, unfortunately, rural lifestyle does not provide guarded crossings at every farm road. More to the point would be concern about the two grade crossings within the city itself.
