3,000 Students Clash With Police

Police fired tear gas into a crowd of about 3,000 Michigan State University students who lit a fire in East Lansing’s downtown to protest a ban on drinking at a favorite party spot. The demonstrators were angry that the university decided to put a stop to drinking at Munn Field, a campus spot where fans hold parties before and after Spartan football games.
Just after midnight the protesters lit a fire in a busy intersection. Police fired tear gas into the crowd so firefighters could put out the blaze, police said.
