Cypress Gets Top Seeding in Regional Playoffs

Cypress, one of five Orange County teams in the Southern California community college softball playoffs, received the top seeding Saturday.
The Chargers (46-5) will host No. 16 Canyons (15-12) at noon Friday in the first round of the 16-team, double-elimination tournament. No. 9 Saddleback (25-11) plays No. 8 Bakersfield (25-13-1) at 2 p.m. Friday at Cypress.
No. 5 Fullerton (26-15), which beat Cypress twice, plays No. 12 Pasadena (18-15) at 2 p.m. Friday at Hancock. No. 10 Santa Ana (20-17) takes on No. 7 Ventura (21-20) at 2 p.m. Friday at Long Beach.
No. 11 Golden West (26-13) plays No. 6 Chaffey (24-12) at 2 p.m. Friday at Palomar.
The playoffs end Saturday, with the four surviving teams advancing to the state tournament May 15-17 in Fresno.
